The story behind the artwork

This piece is a reclamation—of softness, space, and every part of ourselves once deemed “too much.” Inspired by the insecurities we’re taught to carry, especially around femininity, A Love Letter to My Younger Self is both a personal reflection and a collective reminder: you were always enough.

Pink, once something I distanced myself from, becomes here a symbol of power - not weakness, not an apology, but a rebellion. The painting honours all the versions of ourselves we tried to hide or outgrow. It’s a tribute to the girl who was told to tone it down, and to the woman who decided not to anymore.

Visual elements

Layered brushstrokes in peach, blush, and plum create a raw, textured surface that mirrors the process of healing - imperfect, evolving, and real. Light and shadow sculpt the body, capturing the tension between softness and strength. The colour pink stands boldly at the centre, redefined not as fragile, but as powerful and unapologetic.

Meaning and intent

This painting is about embracing what once felt like too much - emotion, vulnerability, femininity - and turning it into something strong and sacred. It challenges the idea that softness is a weakness, or that taking up space is something to apologise for. A Love Letter to My Younger Self is a reminder that healing isn’t always tidy, but it is worthy. That every version of you is valid. And that you never had to change to be worthy of love.
